For the senior students of Diploma in Sound Engineering and Sound Recording, the latest expert session has assisted them in learning new things and grasp techniques regarding music production.
Thanks to JaiShankar Iyer, who has taken time from his busy schedule as a music composer in Chennai and guided students to reach new height in the arena of music production.
Jaishankar Iyer is a music composer settled in Chennai and has composed 1000’s of jingles for brands like Ashok Leyland, Veneta Cucine, TVS, ESPN, Pepsi and many others.
The hugely popular ‘Whistle Podu’ anthem for the erstwhile IPL team, Chennai Super Kings was composed by Jaishankar Iyer.
Jaishankar iyer has also worked for composed music for a few art films, two of which – Silent Scream and Oorukku Noor Per – have gone on to win National Awards for best debut short film and best Tamil feature film respectively
First days session has covered history of music production, basic techniques related with the usage of microphones and pre-amps etc.
The session has continued for 3 days in the academy exclusively for students who are interested in Music Production.
During the second day session, students have composed a song with Drums, Lead Guitar, Base Guitar, Melodica and Vocal.
Innovative and widely used stereo miking technique has been used to record the drums by finding out the sweet spot where sound frequency is optimum. AKG C414 multipattern condenser microphone and EV PL 37 Condenser Overhead and Instrument Microphone has been installed to record the same.
All the instrument were played by the students. The music composition included Spot Composing, Lyrics, Recording, Editing and Mixing.
Drum miking techniques explained by Jaishankar has been quite informative for everyone as the drum was recorded with minimum mics and shed more light into the history of music production and music genres.
As part of the syllabus, a drum miking and recording session for the students has been organized in the academy wherein maximum no of mics has been used to record the Drum
The basic steps of mixing and how to do a mastering has been explained on the third day. The last days’s session has got more interesting for the students as they got the opportunity to hear various genres of songs and composition by different musical instruments.
Jai Shankar Iyer has explained in detailed about those songs and cleared the doubts regarding various aspects of music production raised by students.
